He will be assigned another position, says Vyhivskyi
Police General Yevhen Zhukov has resigned as head of the Ukrainian Patrol Police following a scandal involving officers who fled the scene of a terrorist attack in Kyiv.
“I, as a combat officer, have decided to submit my resignation from the position I hold. I believe this is the fair thing to do,” Zhukov said.
He stated that the patrol officers who left the scene acted “unprofessionally and unworthily,” failed to properly assess the situation, and left injured civilians in danger.
“It is a very shameful incident. An internal investigation will be conducted, and all commanders will be held accountable for these actions — all supervisors of these two officers,” he added.
Head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivskyi said that Zhukov would be offered another position, possibly related to wartime support activities.
The incident took place on April 18 during a terrorist attack in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, when police officers reportedly abandoned the scene, leaving a child unattended.
Following the incident, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko ordered an internal investigation by the National Police leadership. Six people were killed and 15 injured in the attack.
