Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he delivered a message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, stating that Zelenskyy is ready to meet in any format.
In a post on X, Fico said he personally met Zelenskyy in Armenia, where the Ukrainian president expressed willingness to hold talks with the Kremlin chief.
“The response was clear: if the Ukrainian president is truly interested in a meeting, he should call the Russian president himself,” Fico wrote, referring to Putin’s reaction.
Fico also voiced support for a ceasefire lasting until May 11, saying it could create more opportunities for diplomacy and negotiations.
Earlier, Slovak Foreign Ministry State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec said Fico would bring a message from Zelenskyy to Moscow. He suggested the Slovak prime minister could also hear Putin’s views on possible ways to end the war.
However, Putin aide Yuri Ushakov later claimed that Zelenskyy had not sent any direct message to the Kremlin leader, although Ukraine was discussed during talks between Fico and Putin.
