U.S. President Donald Trump said he has no agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the transfer of the entire Donbas region to Russia.

Speaking to reporters on May 12 before departing for a visit to China, Trump was asked whether there was any understanding with Putin that Moscow should gain control over all of Donbas.

“No,” the U.S. president replied, without providing further details.

Meanwhile, Moscow continues to insist that a ceasefire would require Ukraine to withdraw its forces from the Donetsk region. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov recently stated that negotiations would remain stalled unless Kyiv agrees to such conditions.

Russian officials have also suggested that the issue of Donbas was discussed during a meeting between Trump and Putin in Anchorage in August 2025, though no formal agreements from that اللقاء were ever made public.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly said they will not accept any deal that would hand over the entire Donbas to Russia.
