Brian Mast, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the U.S. Congress is unlikely to approve a new large-scale aid package for Ukraine, arguing that European countries should take on a greater share of responsibility for supporting Kyiv.
In an interview with “Radio Free Europe,” Mast stated he does not expect approval of future U.S. security assistance packages for Ukraine, regardless of their size.
He said the war is taking place “in Europe’s backyard” and therefore European governments should bear more of the financial and military burden.
At the same time, Mast noted that the U.S. administration continues to support Ukraine through weapons deliveries, intelligence sharing, and sanctions pressure on Russia, while also emphasizing a more restrained approach.
He also expressed support for additional sanctions against Russia, but stressed they should not harm U.S. allies more than Russia itself.
