According to the presidential adviser, Lukashenko should be judged by his actions rather than his words.
Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said he is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, including on Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn responded that “the words of this man mean nothing” and that attention should instead be paid to his actions, according to Interfax-Ukraine and European Pravda.
“Lukashenko has a habit of rather clumsily inventing, after the fact, where an ‘attack was supposedly being prepared against him,’ so there is not much to discuss here. The president was in Slavutych today, speaking with local communities specifically about issues like these,” Lytvyn said.
Earlier, Lukashenko stated that Minsk would not join the war in Ukraine unless “aggression” was committed against Belarus. He also spoke about being open to a meeting with Zelensky.
“At any location — in Ukraine or Belarus — I am ready to meet with him and discuss the problems in Belarusian-Ukrainian relations,” Lukashenko said.
Previously, Zelensky stated that Russia is trying to draw Minsk even deeper into the war and is considering operational plans involving areas south and north of Belarusian territory. This could involve an attack toward Ukraine or one of the NATO member states. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi also said that the threat from Belarus is real.
