US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently the most powerful military force in Europe, attributing this to their extensive combat experience and sustained Western military support, despite Russia’s significant resource advantage.
According to Rubio, Ukraine’s armed forces have reached this level due to a combination of real battlefield experience and systematic assistance from international partners.
He emphasized that Russia continues to suffer heavy losses, reportedly losing between 15,000 and 20,000 soldiers per month, which he said is several times higher than Ukraine’s losses. Rubio described the overall human and economic toll of the war as extremely high for both sides.
At the same time, he noted that diplomatic efforts to end the war have slowed. In his view, this is because both Kyiv and Moscow still believe they can achieve further gains on the battlefield.
Despite the pause in negotiations, Rubio expressed hope that conditions will eventually allow for renewed dialogue between the parties.
He also reiterated that the United States is willing to act as a mediator, but only if there is a realistic prospect of reaching a settlement.
