Ukraine has already handed over lists to Russia as part of the agreed arrangements.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the agreement on a reciprocal prisoner exchange in the 1000-for-1000 format, first announced on May 8 by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Zelenskyy, preparations for the exchange are underway, and the Ukrainian side has already submitted its list to Russia.
“The prisoner exchange — one thousand for one thousand — is being prepared and is expected to take place. These guarantees were taken on by the Americans. Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters has handed over the list of one thousand to the Russian side. There was American mediation in this agreement, so we expect the U.S. to remain active in ensuring its implementation,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that consultations with U.S. partners are ongoing regarding guarantees for the fulfillment of the agreement, including security-related aspects.
“Now Putin himself says he is finally ready for real meetings — we have helped push him toward this, and we have long been prepared for meetings. So a format needs to be found,” the president concluded.
Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that Ukraine was allegedly not ready for a mutual prisoner exchange.
