On the night of May 23, Russia launched 124 strike drones against Ukraine from multiple directions, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down the majority of the incoming drones, though several impacts were recorded.
The Air Force reported that the attack involved Shahed-type drones (including jet-powered variants), as well as “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” and decoy drones (“Parody”) launched from Russian territories including Kursk, Shatalovo, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and occupied Crimea.
Air defenses involved aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare systems, mobile fire groups, and drone units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
Preliminary data as of 08:30 indicates that 102 drones were shot down or suppressed across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
However, 12 drones struck 9 locations, and debris from intercepted drones fell in 5 additional areas. Authorities warned that the attack was still ongoing, with several drone groups remaining in the airspace.
Local reports confirmed damage in several regions, including fires in the Poltava area and disrupted air quality in Konotop after jet-powered drone strikes. In Dnipro, a UNHCR humanitarian aid warehouse was destroyed in a strike, with losses affecting supplies intended for displaced civilians.
