Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that both China and the United States hope for a quick end to the war in Ukraine and are prepared to play a “constructive role” in resolving the conflict.
According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, Wang Yi said Beijing and Washington have each made efforts to promote peace talks “in their own way.”
“Complex issues do not have simple solutions, and peace negotiations cannot deliver immediate results,” Wang said, adding that both countries remain open to dialogue and political efforts aimed at ending the war.
The statement came after a meeting in Beijing on May 14 between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump also confirmed that Ukraine was discussed during the talks, saying both sides want to see the conflict resolved and are interested in finding ways to achieve that goal.
Earlier this month, China’s Foreign Ministry similarly stated that Beijing supports all efforts aimed at ending hostilities and creating conditions for a political settlement.
