Drones attacked the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol region overnight on May 16, triggering a large fire at the facility, according to monitoring channels and Exilenova+.
A series of explosions was reported in the city of Nevinnomyssk around 2:30 a.m. Local residents shared videos showing heavy flames and smoke rising from the plant.
Witnesses claimed they heard multiple drone explosions but no apparent air defense activity, saying Russian air defense systems did not respond during the attack.
Nevinnomyssk Azot is one of the largest chemical enterprises in the Stavropol region. Russian authorities have not officially commented on the consequences of the strike.
The attack comes amid a growing wave of Ukrainian drone strikes deep inside Russian territory. In recent days, Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Russia’s Krasnodar region, as well as refineries, fuel depots, and air defense systems in other regions.
