Overnight, drones attacked Yaroslavl in Russia. The target may have been one of the country’s largest oil refineries.
According to reports citing a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and OSINT analysts, footage published by Telegram channels shows a bright flash over the city. OSINT analysts identified the filming location as Frunze Avenue in Yaroslavl. The suspected target, the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery, is located more than 7 kilometers from the filming point.
There has been no official confirmation of any strike on industrial facilities in the region. Yaroslavl regional governor Mikhail Yevrayev reported only that Ukrainian drones had been repelled.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed an operation targeting the Yaroslavl refinery, stating that Ukrainian Defense Forces operated in the direction of the plant, located about 700 kilometers from Ukrainian territory.
The Novoyaroslavl refinery is one of the five largest in Russia, processing around 15 million tons of oil annually. It is a key asset of Slavneft, 99.7% of which is owned equally by Rosneft and Gazprom.
The refinery has reportedly been targeted multiple times before. During an earlier strike in May, a fire broke out at the facility.
Meanwhile, Russia’s oil refining sector is under growing pressure, with fuel retailers reportedly selling popular AI-92 gasoline at a loss.
