President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine has received intelligence from U.S. and European partners indicating that Russia may be preparing to strike Ukraine with an “Oreshnik” missile system.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian intelligence is currently verifying the information, but Kyiv already sees signs that Russia may be preparing a large combined attack involving multiple types of weapons, potentially including strikes on the capital, Kyiv.
The Ukrainian president urged citizens to take air raid alerts seriously and use shelters, warning that Russia’s actions remain unpredictable and dangerous.
Zelenskyy also called on international partners to respond preventively rather than only after an attack occurs. He argued that allowing Russia to escalate with such weapons could encourage other aggressive regimes around the world.
He added that Ukraine is strengthening its air defense capabilities as much as possible and will continue responding to Russian attacks.
The “Oreshnik” missile system has previously been linked by Ukrainian officials to Russia’s efforts to modernize and expand its strategic strike capabilities, including potential nuclear applications.
