Explosions were reported overnight on May 15 in several Russian cities, including Ryazan and Yeysk. In Ryazan, a fire broke out at a major oil refinery after a reported drone attack, while residents later complained about “black rain” falling over the city, according to Astra.
Ryazan region governor Pavel Malkov said residential buildings and an industrial facility were damaged. Local reports say the strike hit the Ryazan oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest, owned by Rosneft. The plant processes around 17 million tons of oil annually. Authorities reported three people killed and 12 injured.
In Yeysk, residents reported explosions and a fire near the local military airfield. Photos published online reportedly show smoke rising above the base, where Russia’s naval aviation training center and the NITKA carrier aviation training complex are located.
Russian Telegram channels also reported explosions in Bryansk and Taganrog, though no official information about damage or casualties has been released.
The attacks came after Russia launched one of its largest aerial assaults against Ukraine on May 13–14, using more than 1,500 drones and dozens of missiles. Kyiv was the main target, with a Russian Kh-101 missile destroying part of a residential high-rise in the Darnytskyi district. The strike killed 24 people, including three children, and injured 48 others.
