The move will support US foreign policy and national security goals by strengthening the security of a partner country, the State Department said.
The US State Department has approved a potential $108.1 million sale to Ukraine of equipment and services for maintaining Hawk missile systems and related hardware, according to an announcement published on the department’s website.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe,” the statement said.
According to the announcement, the Ukrainian government requested the purchase of trailer-mounted mast systems, overhaul and maintenance services, spare parts, consumables and accessories, as well as repair and return services. The package also includes engineering, technical and logistical support from the US government and contractors, along with other elements of logistics and program support for FrankenSAM Hawk missile systems.
The proposed sale is expected to improve Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future threats by providing additional equipment for self-defense missions and strengthening its integrated air defense system. The statement added that Ukraine would have no difficulty integrating the equipment and services into its armed forces.
The main contractor for the project will be Sierra Nevada Corporation.
“The proposed sale of this equipment and related support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The proposed sale will have no adverse impact on US military readiness,” the State Department added.
Under President Donald Trump, the United States has significantly reduced direct military assistance to Ukraine. Much of the military support is now being offset by European allies. At the same time, the PURL initiative — a joint US-NATO mechanism — allows allies to purchase American-made weapons for Ukraine.
It was recently reported that the Trump administration did not include funding for Ukraine under the USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) program in the draft defense budget for fiscal year 2027. Republican Congressman Brian Mast recently said that Congress is unlikely to approve a new aid package for Kyiv.
