Security measures have been strengthened in the Baltic states and Finland following reports of a potential aerial threat.

On Sunday, F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets were observed in southeastern Finland and the Pirkanmaa region. Finnish Defence Forces increased surveillance after reports of an unidentified drone, according to broadcaster Yle.

Earlier in the day, air-raid alerts were issued in Latvia’s border regions, with warning messages sent directly to residents’ mobile phones.

The Latvian Armed Forces reported that one drone entered Latvian airspace, adding that the threat has since been neutralized.

Previously, several drones were reported to have crossed into Latvia from the direction of Russia, prompting the delivery of a diplomatic protest note to the Russian ambassador.
