What is she suspected of?
Today, anti-corruption authorities, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, announced the exposure of a criminal group allegedly led by a member of parliament. According to NABU, investigative actions are currently ongoing with one of the case’s suspects. Sources from law enforcement told ZN.UA that this concerns Hanna Skorokhod, a deputy from the “For the Future” party.

NABU promised to provide more details later. Meanwhile, Ukrainska Pravda reports that Skorokhod is suspected of allegedly demanding $250,000 from a businessman along with her accomplices.

Later, Skorokhod confirmed the searches on her Telegram channel. She claims the actions are politically motivated and aimed at pressuring the opposition.

“I have nothing to hide; my activities are transparent. However, the timing and context of these events lead to a clear conclusion: I see this as direct pressure on the opposition and an attempt to block my political work because of my principled stance,” Skorokhod wrote.

Reflecting on the scale of recurring corruption scandals, one cannot help but wonder about mentality, karma, or bad luck. Yet Ukraine has not established a system that would prevent the rise of such “Midas figures.” Analyst Andriy Dligach explains in his piece “Midas is Immortal. Why Ukrainian Corruption Is Not Just Greed but a Systemic Issue” what such a system would need to look like.
