U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that no agreements regarding Ukraine were reached during the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage.

Speaking to reporters, Rubio stressed that discussions produced proposals rather than any formal deal aimed at ending the war.

“In Alaska, only a proposal was made. There was never an agreement there,” Rubio said.

He added that the United States remains prepared to play a constructive role in efforts to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The comments come after French President Emmanuel Macron previously claimed that Trump and Putin had discussed a broad territorial arrangement involving Ukraine during their meeting in Anchorage last year.

According to Macron, European leaders intervened by sending a delegation to Washington and made it clear that such an arrangement would be unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin recently stated that it does not expect any understandings reached in Anchorage to be implemented and continues to focus on achieving its own strategic objectives in the war.
