Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed that law enforcement authorities are investigating criminal proceedings involving servicemen from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade. All suspects have been suspended from duty, while the brigade's former commander, who allegedly left his military unit without authorization, is currently being sought.
In a statement, the General Staff said the alleged offenses are being investigated as part of an ongoing criminal case, with military authorities fully cooperating with investigators.
"The individuals involved in the proceedings have been suspended from performing their official duties. The Military Law Enforcement Service and military command bodies are cooperating with law enforcement authorities during the pre-trial investigation, including efforts to establish the whereabouts of the brigade commander," the statement said.
The General Staff stressed that anyone found guilty would be held accountable regardless of rank or previous service.
Separately, Ukraine's Military Law Enforcement Service said investigators had formally charged the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade under the Operational Command North, along with several other identified suspects, with the kidnapping and premeditated murder of two civilians in Kyiv region.
According to investigators, an organized group was responsible for the unlawful detention and killing of the victims. Authorities said all currently identified participants have been located, evidence has been collected, and arrests have been carried out in several regions of Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that nine servicemen from the brigade, including a battalion commander, had been detained. Investigators believe the group abducted two brothers from a private home in Kyiv region on June 28 before transporting them to Dnipropetrovsk region, where they were allegedly killed.
The investigation into the case is being conducted by the Bila Tserkva District Police under the supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Central Region. The suspects are being investigated on charges including premeditated murder and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
