Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi told Sky News that a just peace for Ukraine is only possible after a complete ceasefire with no preconditions. He stressed that the country’s main task remains protecting its territory and population from Russian aggression.
“We cannot and will not simply give up our land. That is why we are fighting,” Syrskyi said. He added that even the idea of handing over all of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Russia is unacceptable.
According to Syrskyi, a just peace means “a state with no preconditions, no territorial concessions, and a halt to fighting along the entire front line.” Only after such a ceasefire is established, he said, could an initial phase of negotiations begin.
Syrskyi also described the current realities of the war. Ukraine and Russia now deploy roughly the same number of drones on the battlefield, though Russia maintains an advantage in artillery. “The enemy launches 4,000 to 5,000 kamikaze drones every day and 1,500–2,000 bomb-carrying drones. We respond in similar numbers, and in some cases even exceed them in FPV drones,” he said.
He added that while Russian forces have twice as many artillery shells, the heavy use of drones makes effective artillery employment more difficult. Currently, around 60% of strikes are carried out by drones, the commander-in-chief noted.
