Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian forces are suffering heavy losses.

Speaking at a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky dismissed Russia’s claims that its troops had allegedly captured the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. According to him, Ukrainian forces have almost completely “cleared” the city of Russian infantry units.

He added that October was the month when Russian troops suffered the highest number of casualties. Zelensky emphasized that the frontline situation remains fluid:

“The line of contact changes both ways. Their advances are not made with equipment — they advance with 10, 20, 30 soldiers. Then they are eliminated… It’s difficult for us because there are more of them. But they also suffer greater losses. We are focused on saving our people.”

Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that around 40 Russian soldiers were present in the northern districts of Kupiansk. According to the Joint Forces grouping, the Russian military command has ordered troops to film themselves raising Russian flags in areas where occupying forces are present in order to create the false impression that the city is under their control.
