Why fuel prices are rising
Instability in global energy markets is affecting fuel prices. Following a military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran, the price of Brent crude oil briefly climbed above $100 per barrel, the highest level since mid-2022.
Although prices later fell after comments from Donald Trump that the conflict with Iran was “almost over,” Brent crude is still trading around $87.5 per barrel, remaining about 20% higher than before the crisis.
Against this backdrop and due to increased demand from drivers, fuel prices at Ukrainian gas stations began rising last week. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has already asked fuel market participants to explain the sharp increase in prices.
