At least 12 people were killed and six others injured after a passenger minibus collided with a truck on the M-14 Odesa–Melitopol–Novoazovsk highway in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region on Friday, according to regional police.

The crash occurred between the villages of Krasne and Nechaiane. Police said the Mercedes Sprinter minibus, which was transporting passengers from Odesa to Mykolaiv, first veered off the road, overturned, and was then thrown into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Volvo truck.

Investigators specialising in transport-related crimes are working at the scene, while patrol police are managing traffic and securing the area.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) later released photographs from the crash site, saying rescuers helped evacuate survivors from the wreckage and recovered the bodies of those killed. A crisis psychologist has also been deployed to assist those affected.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko had briefed him on the incident. He confirmed that emergency responders, police officers and medical teams are continuing to work at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
