Deputy heads of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) will be dismissed following an investigation into events involving the two agencies, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy said he had discussed the situation with Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. Two suspects have already been formally notified of suspicion, while investigators are examining the circumstances of the events from the outset.
The president said an official investigation would determine the responsibility of the leadership of both agencies.
“There are already personnel decisions regarding both structures. Deputy heads responsible for this situation will be dismissed. It is entirely fair that both structures should be held accountable,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that the actions of both agencies were unacceptable and stressed the importance of establishing the full truth to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Investigation into Kyiv shooting
The decision follows the September 2 shooting in Kyiv involving SBU and HUR personnel.
Two law-enforcement officers — a HUR serviceman and an SBU employee — have since been formally notified of suspicion over their possible involvement in the incident.
Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps.
