A Kh-101 cruise missile that entered Polish airspace on July 30 was carrying a warhead, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said. The missile crashed about 50 km from Lublin and was most likely Russian, according to Tusk.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said it is still unclear whether the incident was caused by a technical malfunction or was intentional, adding that all possibilities remain under investigation.
Tusk thanked Poland's EU and NATO allies for their solidarity and readiness to assist.
Sikorski stressed that the incident highlights the importance of continued military support for Ukraine, particularly air defense systems and interceptor missiles. He warned that Russia is trying to weaken Ukraine by targeting its energy infrastructure with large-scale missile attacks.
The missile entered Polish airspace during Russia's overnight massive missile and drone strike against Ukraine. Polish forces were prepared to intercept it if it had continued deeper into the country. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
