U.S. forces continue enforcing sanctions and restricting maritime traffic linked to Iran’s energy exports.
According to U.S. Central Command, a U.S. Navy helicopter from the destroyer USS Pinckney (DDG-91) intercepted the vessel Sevan in the Arabian Sea. The ship is listed among 19 sanctioned “shadow fleet” vessels accused of transporting Iranian oil and gas products worth billions of dollars.
The vessel was reportedly changing course toward Iran and is now under U.S. military monitoring.
CENTCOM says that since the enforcement campaign began, at least 37 ships have altered their routes. In recent operations, U.S. naval forces have also intercepted multiple Iranian oil tankers in Asian waters and redirected them away from routes near India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
Officials say the operations are part of ongoing efforts to enforce sanctions and limit illicit Iranian oil exports.
