The National Police of Ukraine confirmed searches in a number of regional headquarters but stated that reports about the resignation of its chief, Ivan Vyhivskyi, are untrue.
According to police spokesperson Yulia Hirdvylis, investigative actions were carried out on the morning of May 20 in the main departments of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr regions.
The searches are being conducted with the participation of officers from the Security Service of Ukraine. The official statement says the measures are linked to a criminal investigation into alleged corruption.
Some political claims suggest that suspects have already been notified of charges under the article concerning receiving illicit benefits in especially large amounts, involving officials from regional police departments and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, there is currently no official confirmation of these details from law enforcement agencies.
The National Police emphasizes that Ivan Vyhivskyi has not resigned, continues to perform his duties, and remains in office.
