Two Gerbera-type drones were found near the Neptun Deep gas platform in Romania. The drones were spotted by the coast guard during a routine patrol in the area.
Romania’s acting Defense Minister Radu Miruță said the drones were discovered about 66 kilometers east of Constanța. Several other pieces of debris were also found nearby.
“Two drifting UAVs and several other fragments were detected. The Ministry of National Defence contacted its Ukrainian partners, who confirmed that these systems did not belong to them,” Miruță said.
The drones were subsequently neutralized.
Romania has repeatedly detected Russian drones on its territory and near its border with Ukraine. One of the most notable incidents occurred on May 29 in the city of Galați, when a Russian Geran-2 drone crashed onto the roof of a 10-story residential building.
Romania’s president previously said the country had recorded around 20–30 incidents involving drones without explosives. There was also an incident involving a drone carrying explosives that failed to detonate.
In July, Romanian forces intercepted and shot down Russian drones on three separate occasions. The destruction of the three drones cost Romania approximately €1.5 million.
