Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had a “good meeting” with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday. He shared the details in a post on Telegram.
“Good meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office. Thank you for everything we are doing together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and achieve peace,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The Ukrainian president said he first expressed his condolences to Trump over the death of Lindsey Graham, whom he described as a “true friend of Ukraine.”
According to Zelenskyy, the two presidents discussed licensing for the production of interceptors for Patriot air defense systems, as well as “some other ideas that could help.”
“We also talked about diplomacy — it is important to intensify the diplomatic process. Our teams will coordinate the details of their further communication. I am grateful to the United States for its strong support,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy arrived in the United States overnight on Tuesday and said that his top priority during the visit would be ballistic missile defense and strategic cooperation with the US.
Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported ahead of the meeting that Zelenskyy could seek to draw Trump’s attention to cooperation between Russia and Iran and persuade him of the need for joint efforts to counter what he described as a “single axis” of adversaries.
