President Donald Trump said the United States is working to bring an end to what he called the “Ukrainian crisis.”

Speaking at a meeting at the White House, Trump recalled what he described as his previous achievements as a peacemaker.

“We’re trying to resolve it. I resolved eight wars — this will be the ninth. And our people are now in Russia to see whether we can settle this. It’s not an easy situation, I can tell you. What a mess. This is a war that would never have happened if I had been president,” he said.

Trump also claimed that under his predecessor, Ukraine received a large share of its support in cash:

“Biden handed out $350 billion like candy. It’s an enormous amount of money, and most of it was in cash, with a lot of it in equipment.”

US delegation meets Putin

Meanwhile, a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, began in the Kremlin on the evening of 2 December.

Kremlin aides Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev are also participating in the talks on the Russian side.

According to reports, Witkoff and Kushner are presenting updated parameters of a peace plan following discussions with Ukraine in Florida on 30 November.
Axios says the delegation will travel to Europe next, where a meeting with President Zelenskyy is expected.
