Ukraine’s parliamentary human rights commissioner is preparing a humanitarian mission to occupied Oleshky in Kherson region to assist local residents, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said.
The mission is being organized jointly with Russia’s human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, according to Lubinets’ Telegram channel.
Lubinets said the rescue effort and arrangements to provide assistance had been made possible with the support of US First Lady Melania Trump.
“I am sincerely grateful to the First Lady for her mediation in this process and her deeply humanitarian stance, which is helping create conditions to rescue our citizens,” Lubinets said.
Authorities seek information about residents in need
The Ukrainian ombudsman’s office is collecting information about people who remain in Oleshky and need special assistance. Priority is being given to older people, those with limited mobility and people unable to care for themselves independently.
Residents and their relatives are urged to submit information or requests for help through the following channels:
WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram: +38 067 717 51 70 or +38 073 719 81 34
Email: hotline@ombudsman.gov.ua
Online: through the dedicated portal on the ombudsman’s office website
“It is extremely important for us to obtain as much information as possible about people who remain in the city and need assistance,” Lubinets said.
Food deliveries and ceasefire arrangements
Ukrainian troops recently delivered around four tonnes of food and medicine to residents of occupied Oleshky in a complex operation involving drones.
Ukraine and Russia have also agreed to establish a ceasefire in Oleshky starting October 27. Lubinets announced the arrangement following an online meeting with Lantratova to discuss coordination of the humanitarian mission.
