Ukraine's parliamentary defense committee is not planning to review the current mobilization exemption for fathers of three or more children in the near future, despite a petition calling for changes that has sparked controversy on social media.
Oleksandr Fediyenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said the issue is being discussed within the committee, but no major legislative changes are currently being prepared.
Fediyenko said existing rules are intended to ensure state support for children and mothers while allowing eligible fathers to receive an exemption from mobilization.
He also criticized electronic petitions as an ineffective mechanism for influencing government policy, arguing that many initiatives ultimately receive little follow-up from the authorities.
According to the lawmaker, the parliamentary committee remains in regular contact with the Ministry of Defense on mobilization-related issues. However, there are currently no plans for a large-scale revision of the rules governing exemptions for parents of large families.
