Ukraine’s top tennis player Elina Svitolina has advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 clay-court tournament in Rome after a confident victory in the fourth round.
The world No. 10 defeated Czech player Nikola Bartunkova, ranked 94th in the WTA standings, with a solid 6–2, 6–3 win. This was the first-ever meeting between the two players.
For Svitolina, this marks the 27th quarterfinal appearance at WTA 1000 level in her career. In Rome, she will reach the last eight for the sixth time, having previously won the tournament twice, in 2017 and 2018.
Her next opponent will be the winner of the match between Czech player Karolína Plíšková and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.
