The match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami saw England race to a 4-0 first-half lead through goals from Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and a Bukayo Saka brace.
France mounted a strong comeback after the break, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice and Bradley Barcola adding another to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot late in the match to restore England's two-goal cushion before Ousmane Dembélé scored in stoppage time. Jude Bellingham then sealed the 6-4 victory with England's sixth goal.
The result gives England its best World Cup finish since lifting the trophy in 1966 and marks the Three Lions' first third-place finish in tournament history.
The 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
