Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, the world No. 11, defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, ranked No. 19, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round of the 2026 US Open and advanced to the round of 16.
Kostyuk took control early, racing to a 3-0 lead and closing out the opening set 6-3.
Alexandrova started the second set with a 2-0 lead, but Kostyuk responded by winning six consecutive games to complete a dominant comeback. The match lasted 1 hour and 18 minutes.
The victory was particularly significant for Kostyuk because it was her first win over Alexandrova. They had previously met twice, in 2021 and 2022, with Alexandrova winning both matches.
Kostyuk has now reached the US Open round of 16 for the second consecutive year, matching her best result at Flushing Meadows. It is also her third straight Grand Slam tournament in which she has advanced to at least the fourth round.
Her opponent in the next round will be determined by the match between Linda Noskova and Ann Li.
