FIFA World Cup President Gianni Infantino said that Iran national football team will participate in the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing that sport should “unite people.”
His statement was echoed by Donald Trump, who said he agreed with the decision and left participation matters to FIFA.
The 2026 tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 48 teams for the first time in history. Iran is scheduled to play group-stage matches in the United States, including games in Los Angeles and Seattle.
Despite earlier attempts by the Iranian federation to relocate matches due to political tensions, the request was rejected.
