Phjoto: FC Shakhtar Donetsk
Donetsk-based Shakhtar have been fined following a serious on-field injury to young player Izaki Silva.
UEFA announced that the club must pay a €10,000 fine for:
- failing to follow protocols for handling serious injuries
- breaching safety rules under the concussion charter, part of UEFA’s medical regulations
Coach also sanctioned
Head coach Arda Turan has been fined €20,000.
He was found responsible for:
- violating general conduct principles
- ignoring procedures designed to protect player health
What happened
The incident occurred on April 9 during the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinal between Shakhtar and AZ Alkmaar.
- In the 11th minute, the 19-year-old Izaki collided with an opponent and lost consciousness
- Despite receiving medical attention, he returned to the pitch
- He was substituted only in the 24th minute
