Ukrainian race walker Liudmyla Olyanovska has set a new world record in the women's 1-mile (1.6 km) race walk, marking another major achievement in her outstanding 2026 season.

According to the Athletics Federation of Ukraine, the 33-year-old athlete from Kyiv delivered a historic performance at a competition in Eisenstadt, Austria, winning the event in 6:10.09 — the fastest time ever recorded over the distance.

Olyanovska broke the previous world record by 6.63 seconds. The former mark had stood for 36 years and was set in 1990 by Lithuania's Sada Eidikytė, who at the time competed for the Soviet Union.

Olyanovska is a World Championships bronze medallist and has also won silver and bronze medals at the European Championships in the 20 km race walk.
