Back in January, Apple confirmed that Gemini AI models from Google will form the basis of the next stage of Apple Intelligence, which is expected to be unveiled in June at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
The update is expected to introduce a fully redesigned version of Siri, with a public release planned for the fall alongside iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
This information has now been officially confirmed by Google as well.
During a presentation at Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas, Google Cloud executive Thomas Kurian stated that the companies are indeed collaborating. He described it as a large-scale partnership with one of the world’s most recognizable brands, where Google acts as Apple’s preferred cloud provider for developing the next generation of Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini technology. These models are expected to power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized version of Siri later this year.
This suggests that Apple’s upgraded AI system could become noticeably more capable within the year. However, Apple previously faced delays due to accuracy challenges, pushing back earlier expectations for the new Siri release.
An open question remains where the Gemini-based models will run—either on Google’s infrastructure or through Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute system—with more details expected around June.
