iPhone Air 2 may get major camera and battery upgrades

Apple is reportedly developing the second-generation iPhone Air, currently expected to launch in spring 2027, with a stronger focus on camera performance and battery life.

According to reports, prototypes of the device, codenamed V62, are already in advanced testing. One of the most significant planned upgrades is the addition of a second rear camera, likely enabling ultra-wide photography — a feature missing from the current model.

Apple is also working to improve battery life, although it remains unclear whether this will be achieved through a larger battery or more power-efficient components. The ultra-thin design of the Air lineup limits the space available for a higher-capacity battery.

Sources indicate that camera capabilities and battery endurance are the two areas Apple is prioritizing most, as the single-camera setup of the first-generation Air has been among the most common criticisms from users.

The new iPhone Air is expected to feature a version of the A20 Pro processor, the same chip family anticipated to debut in Apple's premium smartphones later this year.

Under Apple's current roadmap, the company is expected to release only high-end models — including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone — in the autumn launch cycle. The standard iPhone 18 and the next-generation iPhone Air would then follow roughly six months later.

The Air lineup was introduced as part of Apple's effort to refresh the iPhone design and appeal to users who value a lightweight, minimalist device without all the advanced features of Pro models.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook has warned that rising costs for memory and storage chips are making it increasingly difficult for the company to avoid price increases, describing higher prices as “inevitable” despite efforts to absorb some of the additional costs.
