WhatsApp is planning to let users create group chats with people on other messaging platforms, including Signal and Telegram.

Developers are testing a new feature, seen in WhatsApp version 2.25.32.2 for Android, that would enable users to form groups with participants from different chat services.

The feature, called “Third-Party Groups,” is part of Meta’s effort to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The law, adopted two years ago, aims to curb the market power of dominant digital “gatekeepers” and create fairer conditions for competition. It applies stricter rules to large online platforms, such as search engines, social networks, and online intermediary services.
