Ukrainian forces have destroyed a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet and a Pantsir-S1 air defense system during a strike on the Khalino airbase in Russia's Kursk region, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The General Staff said the operation was carried out by the 15th Separate Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade "Black Forest."
"A MiG-29 fighter jet and a Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun system were hit," the statement said.
The military added that "there is more to come."
The strike follows a series of recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian military airfields. Earlier, Ukraine's National Guard Special Operations Center Omega said it had destroyed a Su-24M bomber at the Saky airbase in occupied Crimea.
The Saky airbase has been repeatedly targeted in recent weeks. On July 1, drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) struck hangars housing Su-30 fighter jets. A second strike on July 3 reportedly damaged seven aircraft shelters, including those used for Su-30SM, Su-30 and Su-24 aircraft.
