Ukraine's Special Operations Forces (SSO) said resistance fighters and Deep Strike units carried out a strike on the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant in occupied Sevastopol during the night of July 14.

According to the SSO, the operation damaged the turbine hall and the cooling system of a Siemens SGT5-2000E turbine. Preliminary estimates suggest repairs could take between two and five months if pumping equipment was damaged.

The SSO described the Balaklava plant as a critical part of Crimea's energy infrastructure, saying it provides nearly half of the peninsula's electricity generation. Together with the Tavrida Thermal Power Plant near Simferopol, it supplies about 90% of Crimea's electricity demand.

The military said disrupting power generation in occupied Crimea undermines Russia's military logistics and weakens both its offensive and defensive capabilities on the peninsula.

The strike follows earlier Ukrainian attacks on five electrical substations in occupied Crimea and widespread power outages reported in Sevastopol.
