Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s planned visit to Brussels this week has not been confirmed following changes to the US side’s plans, presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn said in response to journalists’ questions.
The proposed visit was expected to include a meeting between Zelenskyy and representatives of the European Union, NATO and the United States.
“We are not confirming it for now due to changes in the US side’s plans,” Lytvyn said.
What preceded the announcement
On Monday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine, the United States, the EU and NATO would hold talks in Brussels this week.
The discussions were expected to focus on security, security guarantees for Ukraine and the country’s accession to the European Union.
Zelenskyy said the format had changed following a visit by a US delegation to St. Petersburg and a briefing held earlier. Instead of a short meeting, the parties were planning a broader discussion.
The president had said the meeting would likely take place on Tuesday or Wednesday, with representatives of Ukraine, the United States and the EU, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, expected to attend.
