On December 26, China’s Foreign Ministry announced sanctions targeting 10 individuals and 20 U.S. defense companies, including Boeing, over arms sales to Taiwan, Reuters reports.

The sanctions specifically affect Boeing’s St. Louis subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, and L3Harris Maritime Services. The move follows the U.S. announcement of its largest arms package to Taiwan, valued at $11.1 billion.

China stated that Taiwan is at the core of its fundamental interests and represents a “red line” in U.S.-China relations. Any provocative actions crossing this line will be met with a strong response.

Under the sanctions, the targeted individuals are barred from entering China, their assets in the country will be frozen, and Chinese organizations and citizens are prohibited from doing business with them.
