The investigation into the murder of Ukrainian lawmaker Andriy Parubiy has been completed, and the case against the alleged hitman has been referred to court, where he could face life imprisonment with confiscation of property, according to a statement by the Security Service of Ukraine.
Investigators say they documented additional crimes committed by the suspect, including public calls to overthrow the constitutional order and to eliminate representatives of Ukraine’s state authorities.
During the investigation, officers also discovered a sawed-off hunting shotgun hidden in a cache at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv, which the suspect allegedly prepared for possible use in further subversive activities.
The suspect faces multiple serious charges under Ukrainian law, including:
- High treason during wartime
- Public calls for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order
- Attempt on the life of a state official carried out by a group of persons
- Illegal possession and storage of firearms and ammunition
- Justification and glorification of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine
Murder of Parubiy
On August 30, 2025, Andriy Parubiy — former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and a prominent participant in the Revolution of Dignity — was shot dead on Yefremova Street in central Lviv. He died at the scene from his injuries.
The main suspect, 52-year-old Lviv resident Mykhailo Stselnikov, was detained on September 1 in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the killing, claiming it was motivated by “personal revenge against the Ukrainian authorities.” However, investigators say they later found evidence that he had been recruited by Russian intelligence services more than a year earlier.
Messages discovered on his phone allegedly show communication with Russian handlers and the transfer of information about strategic facilities in Ukraine.
Later in the investigation, authorities said they recovered the pistol used in the killing and gathered further evidence linking the suspect to the aggressor state.
On October 1, Volodymyr Zelenskyy posthumously awarded Andriy Parubiy the title Hero of Ukraine.
