The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it carried out a strike on oil storage facilities in Tehran on the evening of March 7, targeting infrastructure that supplies fuel, including to military sites.
According to CNN, flames and thick smoke were seen rising from the Shahran Oil Depot in the Iranian capital following the attack.
“This strike causes significant damage and delivers another blow to the military infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime,” the IDF said in a statement.
Earlier, on March 5, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli military, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, announced that Israel was moving into the next phase of its military operation against Iran. He did not disclose details but said the country would continue to degrade Iran’s military capabilities, adding that further actions were being prepared but would not be publicly announced in advance.
A senior Israeli official also told The Guardian that the joint military campaign by the United States and Israel in Iran had been more successful than expected, given the scale of combat operations and the complexity of coordination.
According to U.S. and Israeli officials, their forces have gained near-total control of the airspace over Tehran after destroying much of Iran’s air defense systems and missile launchers. The joint operation has involved thousands of targets across the country.
During the first hours of the campaign, several senior Iranian officials were reportedly killed, including Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, his adviser Ali Shamkhani, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, Chief of Staff Abdol Rahim Mousavi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohammad Pakpour, as well as intelligence chiefs and key officials responsible for developing Iran’s military-technical capabilities.
In response, Iran has launched large-scale drone and missile attacks against Israel, as well as against American bases and facilities in Arab countries hosting U.S. forces, expanding the confrontation across the Middle East.
