An Air Canada aircraft collided with a ground vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, forcing a temporary shutdown of the airport, according to CNN.
According to flight tracking service Flightradar24, the regional Express CRJ-900 jet, arriving from Montreal, struck the vehicle at a speed of about 24 mph (39 km/h) at approximately 11:37 p.m. local time.
There were 76 passengers and four crew members on board, NBC News reported. Four people were injured in the incident. The pilot and co-pilot sustained serious injuries, while those in the truck suffered limb fractures but are reported to be in stable condition.
The New York City Fire Department responded to the incident on runway 4 and coordinated with Port Authority police.
New York’s emergency alert system warned of flight cancellations, road closures, traffic delays, and a heavy emergency response presence around the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the airport is expected to remain closed until around 2:00 p.m. local time on Monday.
According to LaGuardia Airport’s official website, incoming flights were diverted to other airports or turned back.
