Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has reacted to threats from Iran to strike Ukraine over alleged support for Israel, particularly claims about providing drones.
In a comment to RBC-Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi called Iran’s actions “absurd,” reminding that Tehran has been helping Russia kill Ukrainians for years by supplying drones and technologies used in the war against Ukraine.
“The Iranian regime has supported the killing of Ukrainians for years by directly providing the aggressor state with drones and technologies for aggression against Ukraine. In this context, it is absurd when representatives of that regime threaten Ukraine and even refer to the right of self-defense enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter,” he said.
Tykhyi also stressed that the Iranian regime must be held accountable for crimes against the Iranian people and other nations.
Earlier, Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary national security commission, claimed that Ukraine’s alleged support for Israel with drones makes the entire territory of Ukraine a legitimate target for the Islamic Republic, citing the UN Charter.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said the United States does not need Ukraine’s help in defending against Iranian drones. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Trump’s remarks as “rhetoric.”
