Ukraine has received 11 requests from countries neighboring Iran, the United States, and European nations for security assistance, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on March 9.
During a national security briefing, Zelenskyy discussed destabilization risks from the war in Iran and the potential impact on global markets, regional countries, and Ukraine’s partners supporting Kyiv in the ongoing conflict.
“These events in the Middle East and the Gulf region directly affect Europe—including Ukraine—and other parts of the world, as well as critical supply chains, security, and the well-being of our people,” the president said.
Ukraine has already responded to some of the 11 requests with concrete support, including expertise in countering Shahed drones, electronic warfare systems, and training. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, together with the General Staff and the Armed Forces, will decide how to respond to the remaining requests without compromising Ukraine’s own defense capabilities.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s priority is preventing the Iranian regime from gaining any advantage over those defending life. “We have long offered partners updated and strengthened joint capabilities to protect life, including countering drones and missiles and targeting aggressor regimes’ weapons production,” he said.
According to Western media, the United States and Qatar are negotiating the purchase of Ukrainian interceptor drones to more cost-effectively shoot down Iranian Shahed drones.
Ukraine also plans to send a team of military specialists to the Middle East to share practical experience in neutralizing Iranian drones, staffed by personnel with real combat experience against Shahed-type UAVs.
