US President Donald Trump once again criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump said he decided to temporarily ease some sanctions on Russian oil due to the sharp rise in global prices. According to him, it is important that oil remains available to the entire world, he said in an interview with NBC News.
“Sanctions imposed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 will return once the crisis is over,” Trump noted.
The outlet also reported that when asked about criticism from some foreign leaders over the lifting of sanctions, Trump did not respond directly. Instead, he criticized Zelenskyy, saying he was surprised by the Ukrainian president’s reluctance to reach a “peace deal.”
The American leader said Zelenskyy should agree to an agreement because, according to him, Russian ruler Vladimir Putin is ready for a deal. Trump added that negotiating with the Ukrainian president is much more difficult.
Earlier, Trump said the United States was temporarily easing some sanctions related to oil trade in order to curb the sharp rise in energy prices caused by the conflict involving Iran.
Later, minority members of the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs sent a letter to committee chairman Tim Scott, a Republican from South Carolina, asking him to hold a congressional hearing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent by the end of March. Lawmakers said the Trump administration cannot claim to support US military operations while simultaneously easing sanctions against the Kremlin leader.
